Presentation to Stephensons of Easingwold for supporting reservists
Presentation to Coach Company in York for Supporting Resevists
With over 10,000 companies and organisations throughout the UK openly supporting and encouraging over 8,000 volunteer reservists, SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers), which is part of the RFCA (Reserve Forces and Cadets Association) an MOD campaign, believe it’s important to thank employers for supporting and allowing their employees to take necessary time out during training and possible mobilisation.
Reservists in the Yorkshire and Humber serve in the Royal Naval Reserve, the Royal Marines, the Territorial Army and the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and can be mobilised wherever needed to work alongside Britain’s regular Armed Forces. Reservists are an integral part of the UK Armed Forces and to ensure they are trained to a high standard £9,000 is spent on each reservist to be well equipped and prepared to respond professionally to any threat that they may face.
It can be hard to comprehend the contrast between a reservist and employee’s civilian work and the activities they carry out during mobilisation. Some of the roles reservists can find themselves responsible for are providing force protection, emergency relief, contingency planning and regularly providing the lead role in reconstruction efforts in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq and the Balkans.
SaBRE aims to encourage all companies and organisations to understand the importance of reservists and to show their support by becoming a supportive employer. This can be done by visiting the SaBRE website www.sabre.mod.uk
Throughout the year SaBRE approaches companies and organisations to see if they will become a supportive employer. This could be because they have a reservist working for their company or because they fully support the work reservists carry out.
Over 80 companies a year in the Yorkshire and Humber are presented with a supportive certificate and as a thank you for showing their support SaBRE presented David Stephenson, Director of Stephensons of Easingwold Ltd with a certificate of support on Tuesday 3rd March. The certificate is signed by the Chief of the Defence staff and the Secretary of State for Defence and was be presented by the Yorkshire and Humber regional SaBRE campaign director Richard Lenton.
David Stephenson, company director said: “We are very pleased to support the contribution of the reserve forces. We currently employ a volunteer reservist who is one of our valued members of staff and have no problem allowing him to take time out for his duties. We believe it's important to support any existing or future reservists employed at Stephensons of Easingwold Ltd so will always try and ensure positions are kept open on completion of any Operations.
Mr Lenton, said: “Becoming a reservist can benefit businesses by developing vital life and management skills for their employees, from motivation, self-discipline and confidence to organisation and leadership. Our aim is to educate employers more and go directly to them and speak to the decision-makers within companies. We want to encourage them to encourage employees to sign up.”
